Wed 28th July 2027

It’s my first day of a new life, an unrecognisable life as nothing appears familiar. Father Peters recommended I write a journal in the hope of jolting my memory of my past life, but everything is clouded, jumbled as though missing for a reason.   Not even the face watching from the mirror during my shave this morning brought any recognition. Even my name fails me. I rest; a reluctant witness to my body's healing, not knowing how or why I came to be here. I recover under the watchful, concerned eyes of my carers, especially Lisa, taking it upon herself to monitor my recovery regardless of her own personal needs. Without both Father Peters and Lisa, I’m sure I wouldn’t be alive today. For that I am grateful.

Thurs 29th July 2027

I had the dream again last night of the mysterious man in white, the one called Samuel. It left me in confliction as to his purpose. Not knowing if he is a figment of my strained imagination or something more… sinister? What does he know of my past as he knew of my name? Lisa suggested he was a way for my mind to adjust and make sense of memories just out of my reach, but I’m not sure. His appearance troubles me, even more than the actual truth to his identity. Even now I still feel the burning, my skin opening red as the air rushes from my lungs, desperate to scream in helpless freefall.

Sun 1st August 2027

On a positive note, Father Peters has said I’m making a speedy recovery which is unseen for someone so injured only a few days ago.  I feel my strength returning, but am still unable to speak but a few words. The revelation of my name has produced a renewed excitement in Lisa who keeps me company as much as possible when not needed down stairs. The closeness we share has caused other issues, ones I’m reluctant to share, as though she is a large part of my past, a part I long to reclaim.

Mon 2nd August 2027

My dreams continue to be erratic, some familiar but also the most terrifying nightmares which I cannot come to describe. They haunt my days, becoming troubling as I try to remember, and my friends have noticed I’ve become troubled,.  Yet I still keep secrets.

Tues 3rd August 2027

My days still require rest, but I am able to move about the refuge unaided, which allows me to seek solace on the rooftop amd observe the old town of Sufferance and  New Eden beyond its borders.  Each passing day I regain strength and soon I must make a choice; to continue my recovery at the refuge or move on. It’s not a prospect I relish as I  realise the people here have become my friends. Especially Lisa, who continues to be a catalyst to my past, unlocking a deep passionate feeling I cannot shake or act upon.

Fri 6th August 2027

Dreams continue to become more disturbing, day or night. The latest is of a young woman.  It begins with a provocative dance and ends with her body gripped in my arms as I look upon her blood stained features. The disembodied voice speaking to my failure, maybe an accomplice or reason in her death, I cannot be certain. As for the past week, my memories and dreams continue to raise more questions than answers. But this woman appears so familiar and it causes a sense of loss so great it pains me to my very soul. Is she the reason for Lisa appearing so familiar from the beginning, sharing so much in appearance and mannerisms? I guess time will tell......
